High-tension wire mishap: Delhi NHRC notice to govt

The National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued a notice to Delhi government following an incident where 22 people were injured after coming in contact with an electric wire that fell in a residential area.

Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports regarding the incident in Khajuri Khaz, the commission said the reports, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights.

In the intervening night of June 22 and 23, a 1,000-meter- long high-tension wire melted and fell on the houses, which resulted in injuries to 22 people and partially burnt few houses in the area. The panel has issued a notice to Chief Secretary to submit his comments in the matter within four weeks.

It has also directed the chief secretary to inform as to what steps are being taken by the government to prevent such incidents in future.
