A ‘hired gun’ from adjacent Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for the murder of the 21-year-old woman at her parents’ house in east Delhi on Monday evening. Investigators are trying to piece together the murder mystery by pursuing several angles.

Identified as one Mani Shankar from Faizabad, police claim that he was among the four-five men the victim’s mother had claimed to have seen moving suspiciously near her West Vinod Nagar residence. Minutes later, around 5.30pm, she and her daughter-in-law found Sarita, her daughter, in a pool of blood.
Sarita, who was married a year ago, was found struggling to survive a deep gash on her neck while her younger brother, a class 10 student, was found in a pool of blood.
“Shankar’s questioning has revealed that he had been brought to Delhi by the main accused three to four days ago. The others involved in the crime have also been identified and we will crack the case soon,” said Prabhakar, deputy commissioner of police (east).
“Sarita, whose father Ashok is a construction contractor, was visiting her parents. Her mother and her sister-in-law had gone to the nearby market around 4.30 pm. When they returned an hour later, they found the main door ajar and the house ransacked,” said an officer.
Police said the women had claimed that they had seen four-five men moving suspiciously around the house while walking towards the market. The police had said that the criminals’ entry had been friendly.
“Till the main accused is caught, the case can only be treated as one of robbery. Investigations are under way,” Prabhakar added.
