Hoax caller claiming bomb in metro held

Though the call did trigger a security alert, police said, it was declared a hoax after a thorough check for explosive substances at the Shastri Park Metro station and the subsequent arrest of Pawan Mittal, a sanitary ware trader, who was nabbed from the Delhi-UP Apsara border on Monday afternoon.

"We moved-in on Mittal after cornering him thanks to technical surveillance. After he was arrested, Mittal said he had made a call to derive pleasure by troubling the Metro staff," said Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (northeast).

The staff at the Shastri Park Metro station had received a call claiming bomb in a Metro coach plying between Shahdara and Kashmere Gate Metro stations at around 12.15 am.

"In addition to the anti-sabotage checks at the Shahdra Metro station, a thorough search of all Metro coaches was taken up by authorities, however, no bomb was found and the call was declared hoax," DCP Jain said.
