Police said the husband chopped her body into four to five pieces, stuffed them in a sack and then dumped the sack at a secluded place near their house.

The husband was arrested on Saturday after the couple’s 16-year-old daughter lodged a missing complaint with the Fatehpurberi police station on Friday. The girl told the police that she suspected her father’s involvement behind her mother’s disappearance.

“We detained the woman’s husband and grilled him. He initially tried to mislead us by pleading innocence. However, the discrepancies in his statements made us suspicious. We interrogated him again and confronted with some evidence collected against him. He finally broke down and confessed to the crime,” said a police officer.

The accused, Gulbuddin, works as a cook while his wife Phullu Begum was a housewife. Gulbuddin revealed that he had a fight with his wife after which he took her to the first floor, strangled her and then chopped the body into pieces. Their daughter was sleeping on the ground floor when the crime occurred.

Gulbuddin said that he had secretly married a woman in Assam and was planning to shift to Assam with her. He had also planned to sell off his properties but his wife was against it.

“The couple had frequent fights over the issue. They had a fight on the fateful night too. Gulbuddin was avoiding his daughter’s questions about her mother’s whereabouts,” the officer said.
