I only tried to shake hands, says accused cabbie

Vinod Kumar, the Uber-cabbie arrested for molestation, said, “God will punish me if I am wrong’.

“All I tried to do was to convey my regards through a handshake. If she had told me that she felt uncomfortable, I would have immediately apologised,” said Uber cab driver Vinod Kumar who has been accused of trying to sexually harass a professional dancer in his car.
Kumar, who has been arrested for molestation, said: “God will punish me if I am wrong’.

“We started chatting as soon as she boarded the taxi from Tagore Garden. I told her about my family— my wife and two children. After she got down at Gurgaon, she asked me to give her bag kept behind my seat. She told me she used to board another taxi and was using Uber for the first time. I tried to welcome her into the Uber family through a handshake,” said Kumar, who used to drive vehicles at the airport before he began working with Uber from May 4.

Kumar said he had feared how he would face his daughter and wife after the allegations. “But my wife and daughter supported me. They trust me completely,” he said. “I can assure you that he cannot do anything wrong. We are with him,” said Kumar’s wife.

“I have been doing 10-12 trips everyday and in one month no woman traveller has complained about me. It is true I shook hands with her and put my hand on her forehead to bless her, which is my mistake. But if she had any problem, she should have told me immediately so that I could have apologised,” he added.
