Idol Immersion mishap: Truck turns turtle, kills two

They were going to immerse the idol of Goddess Durga in Yamuna river after four days of festivities. Police said the incident happened on Nelson Mandela Road at about 3:15 pm. The two killed were identified as Ajit Kumar (22) and Satya Narayan (25), both residents of Kapashera.
Police said the accident happened when the driver of the mini truck applied sudden brakes to avert an accident and lost control over the vehicle.
"Eyewitnesses said the truck was moving at a high speed. On the way, the driver applied brakes due to which the vehicle first hit the road divider and then overturned. Around 45 men, who were on the truck received severe injuries and were immediately rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Kumar and Narayan were declared brought dead. Seven are critically injured. Police have impounded the vehicle and registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the errant driver.
In another accident, two children, including a girl, were killed while a man was injured when a mini truck hit their motorcycle in Alipur, Outer District. Bal Krishan was riding the motorcycle with Shivam (7) and Shivani (12) as pillion riders.
The children died on the spot. Krishan is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
