India free from swine flu virus: Official

India continues to be free of the H1N1 swine flu virus, a health ministry official said in New Delhi on Saturday.

India continues to be free of the H1N1 swine flu virus, a health ministry official said in New Delhi on Saturday.

The official said 30 samples tested in in India were found negative and four samples were still under investigation.

The health authorities are taking adequate measures for surveillance at airports and airports.

At least "179 doctors and 97 paramedics have been deployed to man 72 counters at 21 airports. Till date about three lakh passengers have been screened," the official added.

"As of now, no case has been reported in India. The situation is being monitored," he said.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) 29 countries have officially reported 3,440 cases of H1N1 infection till Saturday.

Mexico has reported 1,364 confirmed human cases of infection, including 45 deaths. The US has reported 1,639 human cases, including two deaths.
