India's swine flu toll reaches 792

Three swine flu deaths, including one in the national capital, were reported on Tuesday, taking the country's total toll from the HIN1 virus to 792, health officials said in New Delhi.

Also, 240 new cases were reported in the country. With this, the number of people affected by the contagious virus is 24,210.

Apart from the capital city, one death each was reported from Kerala and Punjab. Kerala has so far reported 31 deaths, while the toll is 21 in Punjab.

In Delhi, a 23-year-old woman died of swine flu on Tuesday, taking the total number of deaths in the city due to the virus to 57.

"The woman died in the Safdarjung Hospital Tuesday morning," Anjana Prakash, additional nodal officer handling swine flu cases in Delhi, told IANS.

Delhi also recorded 125 new swine flu cases Tuesday.

"Among these, 67 were children. With this, the cumulative total number of cases in the city has risen to 8,626," she said.

New cases were also reported from Maharashtra (30), Haryana (13), Karnataka (11), Tamil Nadu (8) and Jammu and Kashmir (4).
