International Women's Day: HT-C fore Survey

Safety remains the biggest concern among women across all income groups in rural and urban India. HT conducted a survey on a sample size of 973 women to determine how they feel about how things run in our country.

The survey was conducted in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Patna, Ranchi and Jaipur and adjoining rural areas between 4th and 7th March 2013.

The locations were strategically chosen to ensure geographical spread and to contact the desired respondent category. In all a statistically selected sample of 973 women in the age group of 18 and above were interviewed using a semi structured questionnaire.

32% of respondents belonged to rural areas.77% of respondents were housewives and 23% were working. The respondents were also clustered in economic categories, with household income below Rs. 2 lakh per annum as low, with income between Rs. 2 and 6 lakh per annum as middle and income of Rs. 6 Lakh and above as upper income.

The survey has a margin of error of 3% at 95% confidence level.
