The incident took place when Constable Yashpal (39), the PSO of Abdullah’s family, was leaving for home after completing his duty at the CM’s 7-Akbar Road residence around 11.15 pm.

“He was seriously injured by a speeding call centre vehicle in front of Omar Abdullah’s residence. He was lying on the road, bleeding profusely when another vehicle ran over him. The vehicle has been identified as belonging to a call centre in Gurgaon, and the driver though identified is absconding. Efforts are on to arrest him,” said Shankar Dash, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi).

Other security personnel present in the area immediately took Yashpal to RML Hospital but he did not survive. A case has been registered and the call centre vehicle has been impounded.
