The protest came after a daylight robbery in Shyam Park Extension where a jewellery store was robbed of gold and jewellery worth an estimated Rs 15 lakh.

Amit Ahuja, owner of Laxmi Jewellers, said a man came to his shop around noon on the pretext of purchasing jewellery. Later, he returned with two other men and robbed him at gunpoint. The men came in a golden-coloured Maruti-Alto. Locals said the police reached the spot 30 minutes after the incident.

The traders blocked traffic on the main GT Road for over three hours. They shouted slogans against the police and local administration. Senior police officers reached the spot and managed to remove the blockade after several kilometres of traffic had come to a halt.

SSP, Deepak Ratan said, “We have put several mobile numbers on surveillance. We need time to recover the valuables. Police patrolling is also being intensified in the areas."

This is not the only incident to have happened in Ghaziabad in recent times. Apart from daily chain-snatching incidents, traders have been on the receiving end due to growing incidents of snatching and robbery.
