The police suspect that Govind Joshi was suffering from depression and may have committed suicide. They said he lost his job in Bangalore four months back and was living with his father Vishambhar Joshi, a retired Defence Research and Development Organisation official, at his rented accommodation in Timarpur since then.

The incident came to light on Friday morning after Vishambhar Joshi returned from his native village in Uttarakhand.

"Joshi reported that after returning home, he knocked the door several times but Govind did not open it. He also said that a strong foul smell was coming from the house. He raised an alarm and called the police," said a police officer.

The door, which was locked from inside, had to be broken. On entering the house, they found Govind's decomposed body on the bed. The police said he might have died at least five-six days ago.

The police said there were no injury marks. Joshi said his son was unemployed for the past three-four months and was ill and depressed. No suicide note was recovered. The cause of death will be known after post-mortem.
