"The results portend the political direction in context of next year's assembly polls," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said. He said the results also indicated that the country can be governed by a centrist political force.

"If seen in juxtaposition with West Bengal, where the Left is heading for a rout, the picture that emerges is that Congress is the rightful, legal and natural occupant of the centre-right and centre-left political space," he said.

He appealed to the people of Bihar to look at the larger picture which the election results of Kerala had thrown up.

Tewari sidestepped a question on whether the benching of Abhishek Singhvi, a spokesperson of the party, helped the UDF in the Kerala polls.

Singhvi was rested as spokesperson after the Kerala unit of the Congress protested his appearing as a lawyer in a lottery case.
