The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam suicide bomber, Dhanu, had killed Gandhi and 14 others in the attack during an election rally at Sriperumbudur, about 60km south of Chennai, on May 21, 1991.
Speakers at the one-day fast, organised by the Youth Congress at Mount Road in central Chennai, condemned the cries for leniency for convicts Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, saying such calls went against the Supreme Court judgment.
Babita Devi, 37, daughter of Rajaram, a police inspector who died in the attack, said, “We have suffered through the trauma. Justice should be done and I hope justice will be done.”
