Taking kite-flying to a different level on Independence day, is this group of youngsters, back with the second edition of the Flight to Fight festival.

Unlike last year, when the theme was anti-corruption, this year it aims at promoting freedom, which holds different meanings for different people. “We want people to come and express their happiness. The idea is to celebrate independence,” says Mudit Kalra, one of the organisers of the festival. A kite making and colouring workshop was organised by artist Kanish Singh yesterday, which was followed by screening of the movie, The Kite Runner at Haus Khas Village. “Last time, we had printed hard-hitting anti- corruption slogans on the kites, and this year it will be about equality,” says Kalra. The kites will be available at the venue, Nehru Park, and will be priced between Rs 5 and Rs 20.

The fest will include a kite-flying competition . “A minimum of two people can be a part of one team and the kite and thread will be provided at the venue. A registration fee of Rs 300 has to be paid. The team whose kite is in the skies till the end wins the prize,” says Kalra. Musicians Vishal Jaiswal and Ali Saffudin will also perform at the venue.

“Any band that wants to perform is free to participate,” Kalra adds.
