Kulwant’s US dream turns sour as he lands behind bars

But instead, he landed behind bars after he was caught at the Delhi airport with a fake immigration stamp on Saturday night.

“Singh had gone to the US on a tourist visa in 1994 but did not return. He was a taxi driver until he was caught in 2000,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity. He was deported to India in 2005.

During interrogation, Singh told the police that he was deported on the condition that he couldn't come to the US for the next 10 years.

“He had been staying away from his family for the past six years and desperately wanted to meet them. As there was a condition that he couldn't go to the US for 10 years, he met some agents and asked them to send him to Canada,” the officer said. His wife and two daughters are US citizens.

Singh met Dalvinder Singh, a travel agent in Punjab, who allegedly assured to help him reach Canada for R20 lakh. Another agent Raj Kumar arranged fake immigration stamps.

“Raj Kumar arranged the fake stamp and kept it in a bag. On reaching the airport, he realised that he could get caught and put the stamps in Singh's pocket,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police took them into custody after they were produced in the court on Monday.
