The third quarterly meeting, chaired by L-G Tejendra Khanna, was attended by representatives from various women’s organizations and Delhi Police.

“The meeting was held to review security and safety issues pertaining to women in the Capital and was attended by several women helpline Organisations such as Jagori, Chetna, Maitri, Swastik Mahila Samiti, United Nation Women Association, NFIW, Action NGO India, Justice Surender Bhandare Foundation, United Nations Population Fund among others,” said an officer.

According to officials present at the meet, women’s organisations appreciated the police’s efforts and acknowledged improvement on issues related to women’s safety and security after the December 16 gang rape.

It was requested that the co-ordination meeting, which is supposed to be held at each of the 161 police stations in the context of women’s safety, be held regularly.

“The L-G directed senior officers of Delhi Police to take note and pass instructions accordingly to all police stations,” said an official.

“He said security and safety issues will improve further and some reception-cum-care centres will be opened by the police to provide temporary accommodation to women in distress in eight DDA flats.”

The L-G assured help and co-operation in addition to being open to suggestions to improve the situation further.

“Special Commissioner of Police (traffic) Taj Hasan will now hold regular meetings with all women groups on the last Friday of each month,” the official added.
