Lalu wants ties with Cong in Bihar, J'khand

Buoyed by the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s performance in the assembly bypolls in Bihar, Lalu Prasad called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday, making a pitch for a secular alliance in poll-bound Jharkhand as well as in his home state, reports Saroj Nagi.

“I want the Congress to join hands with like-minded parties for a secular alliance in Bihar and Jharkhand,” Prasad said.

The Congress reportedly does not want a tie-up with the RJD and is keen to go it alone in both states. In Jharkhand, where assembly polls are likely in December, Congress sources talk of a possible alliance with only the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

In a major shock to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the RJD and Ram Vilas Paswan’s LJP won nine of the 18 byelections in Bihar recently.
