A 36-year-old landlady, Sarojini, was allegedly found stabbed to death, and her tenant of one-and-a-half years, Pappu, was found hanging from the ceiling fan, at their residence in Begampur Extension village, on Saturday, police said.

According to police, Sarojini's husband, Pramod, found Sarojini's corpse riddled with stab wounds and a head injury allegedly due to being assaulted with an iron rod, when he returned from Wazirabad.

Pappu, who had suggested that Pramod go to the Wazirabad market to purchase some vegetables, was found hanging from the fan in the drawing room, police said.

According to a senior police official, the police are probing various possibilities in the case.

"We are not only investigating whether the tenant murdered the woman before hanging himself but also whether they had an illicit affair," he said.
