Thanks to an IPL match, some of the major arterial roads of the city will be inaccessible for at least half an hour during evening. The Delhi Daredevils are scheduled to take on the Mumbai Indians at Feroze Shah Kotla stadium.

“This measure will help us discharge traffic smoothly, when about 60,000 people leave for home after the match," said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

The roads that would be closed for general traffic include Rajghat-Delhi Gate, Daryaganj-Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Ajmeri Gate-Asaf Ali Road and ITO-Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. A huge number of traffic men will be deployed on these stretches on Sunday evening.

Due to security reasons, the police have also prohibited parking vehicles within one-km radius of the stadium. “Only vehicles with authorised stickers will be allowed,” said a senior police officer.

“Delhi will host six more matches, all of which fall on working days. On those days, we may restrict traffic movement even before the matches start,” said Garg.

After Sunday, Delhi will witness matches on April 19, 23, 26, 28, May 2 and 21.
