Man gets five yrs in jail for raping ‘lover’

Dismissing defence arguments of consensual sex, Additional Sessions Judge Gurdeep Singh said, “Commission of sexual intercourse is purely the prerogative of the woman”.

Monica (name changed) alleged that on May 19, 2005, the accused took her to an isolated place and had forceful intercourse at knife-point. Later, he dumped Monica near her residence and threatened her to keep silent on the issue.

The prosecution said Ashok was married and had children and despite that he developed relations with the young school-going girl and raped her.

The prosecution contended that the girl went with Ashok as she trusted him, and he betrayed the trust.

The judge told the accused that his act rendered his family into never ending miseries, and also destroyed the life of the victim. The court has sentenced Ashok to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000.
