Man held for raping woman from China
Two days after a 23-year-old woman from China alleged that she was raped by her friend at his flat in south Delhi, the Hauz Khas police on Wednesday arrested a business management graduate and produced him before a city court which sent him to Tihar jail for 14 days. HT reports.
Two days after a 23-year-old woman from China alleged that she was raped by her friend at his flat in south Delhi, the Hauz Khas police on Wednesday arrested a business management graduate and produced him before a city court which sent him to Tihar jail for 14 days.
The accused, identified as Tariq Sheikh, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was staying at a rented accommodation in Safdarjung Enclave area with his two friends.
According to the police, the incident took place on January 30 and was reported to them on February 5 by the victim.
Sheikh, the officer said, is a part-time party organiser and leads a lavish lifestyle.
He has several foreigner friends and his girlfriend reportedly hails from Afghanistan, the police said. The victim is also a friend of him and they met each other in a party organised by Sheikh some months ago.
On January 30, the victim had gone to attend a party organised by Sheikh and his friends at a mall located in Kishangarh near Vasant Kunj.
After the party, Sheikh offered her a lift in his car and brought her to a flat.
“The victim in her complaint alleged that Sheikh raped her in the flat where his two friends were also present. She was later dropped at her place on the same night by Sheikh’s friends. The victim alleged that after being raped by her friend, she went into depression.
"It was only after the suggestions of her roommates that she mustered the courage to approach the police and lodge a complaint,” the officer said adding the victim could not locate the flat where she was taken by Sheikh.
During investigation, the officer said, it was learnt that Sheikh used to befriend foreign girls in parties by introducing himself as a high-profile man who has contacts in Bollywood.
