Man held for selling forged documents

The crime branch of Delhi Police has arrested a member of an interstate gang, allegedly involved in preparing fake driving licences, registration certificates of vehicles and other documents before providing them to customers for an amount of Rs 1,000 each. HT reports.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Aslam. He hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Twenty-five forged driving licenses, four forged registration certificates of various states and two forged Voter ID cards were recovered from Aslam, the police said.

Sanjay Kumar Jain, deputy commissioner of police (crime) said that Aslam was arrested in south Delhi’s Munirika when he was driving a stolen Santro car.

“The arrest came following a tip-off received about his presence in the area,” said Jain.

The Santro car he was driving was found to be stolen from Mewat in Haryana in May.

Interrogation of Aslam revealed that he came to Delhi about 10 years ago and started working as a scrap dealer in Maujpur area, Jain said.

In 2011, he came in contact with one Javed from Mewat who allegedly asked him to sell stolen cars in Delhi and arrange forged documents for the same.

“Aslam, then, contacted one Naresh, a computer shop owner in Shalimar Bagh who prepared forged registration certificates. Meanwhile, Aslam also started getting orders for forged driving licenses and insurance papers from other clients,” Jain said, adding that Aslam hired another computer operator after Naresh shut down his shop.

“His customers were mostly from Delhi, Sonipat, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. To date, he might have supplied more than 1,000 forged documents,” Jain added.
