The police say the money belonged to the finance company Sharma works for.

It was about 12 pm in UTI Bank when Naresh Chand Sharma kept the bag containing cash on the floor and a man quietly slipped away with the bag, the police said. "By the time Sharma realised that the bag had been taken away, it was too late. The man disappeared within seconds," said a senior police officer.

The incident took place when the bank was crowded. The police said the man walked out of the bank with the bag in front of the security guards but nobody suspected him.

The police have registered a case of theft under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code.

"We have spoken to bank employees, security guards and other people present in the bank at the time of the theft," the officer added. The police say they have certain clues but could not disclose them.
