Maran is being investigated, says PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh admitted on Monday that a probe was on against Textile Minister Minister Dayanidhi Maran over corruption charges and asked investigators not to show "fear or favour".

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh admitted on Monday that a probe was on against textile minister Dayanidhi Maran over corruption charges and asked investigators not to show "fear or favour".

"These matters are being looked into by law enforcement agencies. They (investigators) should be allowed to work without fear or favour," he told reporters at an event.

Maran, who was the telecommunication minister from 2004 to 2007, has been accused of ensuring a 2G spectrum license to telecom operator Aircel.

Maran's role came under the scanner after a news magazine questioned the circumstances in which Aircel won the license in 2007.
