The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed a south Delhi restaurant on Friday.

Jhankar banquet and restaurant, situated in Asiad Tower, Khel Gaon, was inspected on Friday by members of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee on sealing.
Later in the day, the committee ordered its sealing. The committee said the land on which the revolving restaurant was built belongs to the DDA, which had leased it to the owners for 25 years. “The owners had started encroaching upon the adjoining land and were using it for weddings, which is not allowed. We had received a number of complaints and finally gave the directions to seal the place on Friday,” said one of the committee members.
The restaurant was built around 1980 in view of Asiad Games in 1982. “The land on which the restaurant and banquet hall has been constructed was earmarked for a district park. How can they carry out commercial activity on it?” added the member.
The DDA spokesperson was not available for comment.
