MCD wants Rs1,248 cr from ministry to tide over losses

Leader of the MCD house Subhash Arya and Standing Committee chairman Yogender Chandolia went to UD minister AK Walia on Tuesday.

The MCD has asked the minister for a whopping R1,248 crore to recover the losses they suffered as House Tax revenues, using the Unit Area Method.

The Delhi government had promised that they would help the civic agency recover the losses, if they suffer for following the Unit Area Method for House Tax.

The MCD has also asked the Delhi government for R35 crore as funds for their schools, R50 crore for their community halls all over the city and R680 crore as non-plan funds.

According to senior officials close to the UD minister, all the demands put forward by the civic agency will be looked into.

“We have told them that all their demands would be looked into but they should make a list and come up with a concrete proposal. We want them to bring up their demands under the Reforms Head. Some have been considered and others, too, would be considered,” said a senior Delhi government official on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Senior MCD officials said the proposal regarding the demands would be formally sent to the Delhi Government.

Recently, the cash-strapped MCD allegedly spent funds — running into crores of rupees — meant for the education of children to cover various expenses, ranging from buying flowers to paying salaries to their employees.
