From Saturday, Janpath will be off limits for traffic due to Metro railway construction. This means commuters from south, southeast and southwest Delhi will go through a tough time on the Connaught Place-New Delhi Railway Station route, a major traffic point.

“A small stretch connecting Windsor Place to the Janpath-Tolstoy Marg crossing will remain closed for general
traffic till the construction is over. We are hopeful the work will be completed in a year,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

This stretch on Janpath is part of the proposed 9.3-km underground Metro rail corridor that would connect the Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate.

“Construction at the Janpath stretch will start soon,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official.

All Connaught Place-bound traffic will be re-routed through Sunheri Masjid, Parliament Street and Rajiv Chowk.
