Metro may cut off-peak hour ticket prices
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning a different fare structure and also offer discounts to passengers - 30% of the over 2 million daily Metro commuters - who travel during non-peak hours. Subhendu Ray reports.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning a different fare structure and also offer discounts to passengers - 30% of the over 2 million daily Metro commuters - who travel during non-peak hours.
Many Metro services around the world, including the London Tube, offer discounts during non-peak hours.
The DMRC registers the maximum footfall from 9-11am and 5-8pm. The non-peak hours are from 6-9am, 11-5pm and 8-11pm, when the last trains roll out.
Metro officials said they will explore the possibility once the Union urban development ministry constitutes the proposed fare fixation committee.
Sharat Sharma, director operations, DMRC, said the corporation has been constantly trying to increase the number of Metro commuters during non-peak hours.
