Missing Noida hospital head set to return on Monday

The district hospital head, Ashok Mishra, whose name features in the National Rural Health Mission scam, and his wife Dr Meena Mishra, a consultant at the institute, had switched off their cell phones while they were away.

According to sources at the hospital, the CMS has called up his colleagues and informed them that he would join work on Monday. Mishra said he had applied for leave from August 11.

“He was disappointed after he found out what has been reported about him. He may get back on Monday,” said a doctor on the condition of anonymity.

On Wednesday, officials from the Noida Authority wrote a letter to the Uttar Pradesh health secretary, demanding action against Mishra.

“The CMS, who has been named in the NRHM scam, and his wife had been untraceable for a month. Their cell phones had been switched off,” said an official.

A few more doctors, however, have been found missing from duty by officials during inspections. Among them is Dr Naresh Raj, who has not reported to duty since February 10.

“They owe an explanation to the patients and the authority,” said Karan Singh Chauhan of the Noida Authority.
