The Delhi Police has decided to beef-up security at the Kashmere Gate automotive parts market in north Delhi.

Less than a week after Hindustan Times reported on mass burglaries, motor vehicle thefts and snatching incidents having become daily episodes at the market, the auto parts hub is all set to get CCTV cameras in addition to other security arrangements.
“We have decided to engage all RWAs and traders’ associations in the area to address the alleged lack of security in the area,” said Sagar Preet Hooda, DCP (north) Delhi.
On April 5, HT had carried a report titled ‘Petty crime hits Kashmere Gate market’ underlining the alleged lack of quality policing in the area.
“We will ask traders to help us identify spots to install CCTV cameras,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.
Welcoming the move, Vinay Narang, PRO, Automotive Parts Merchant Association (APMA) said, “We’ll cooperate with the police, like we have in the past.”
