MPs raise concern over rising crime against women in Delhi
Murder of a college girl near Dhaula Kaun on Tuesday and of an elderly woman in east Delhi rocked both the houses of Parlia-ment with the Opposition leaders describing it an example of increased crime against women in Delhi.
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain in Lok Sabha said Delhi is no more safe for women and referred to a statement by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who had said that it was matter of shame that women in Delhi don’t feel safe.
In Rajya Sabha, leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley demanded a statement from the government in this regard. Minister of state in Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanaswamy said the government was concerned about these incidents and the home minister will be apprised regarding the raised concerns by members.
BJP MP Maya Singh said crime against women has seen a steep rise in Delhi and the police and administrative machinery was unable to control it. “The Capital is not safe for women. Who is answerable for this,” Singh said, raising the issue during Zero Hour.
