Mulayam's remarks on women sexist, Talibani: Amar

"Yadav has said the youth would whistle at women MPs after the Women's Reservation Bill comes into force. It is a sexist, Talibani and a cheap remark, which hurts womanhood. I hope that the NCW will take cognizance of the statement and take appropriate action (against him)," he told reporters here.

Singh claimed while the SP chief supports quota within quota for Muslim and OBC women, there have been instances when he has openly favoured "rich and good-looking" women within the party over those who came from humble backgrounds, while distributing party posts and tickets.

Addressing SP workers at a function to mark Ram Manohar Lohia's birth centenary in Lucknow yesterday, Yadav had said "I don't like to say this, but they (those elected due to women's quota) would be the women at whom youths would whistle."
Referring to expelled SP MP Jaya Prada, who was also present, Singh said, "she has been a two-time MP, but there has not been a single incident where anybody has misbehaved with her."

Asked to react on Mulayam's statement, Jaya Prada said, "this is male-chauvinism and an effort to suppress women. I am disappointed with this statement. When I was in SP, I respected Mulayamji, but after this statement, I feel happy to have left the party."
