From making music they went on to steal cars, just to earn a few extra bucks.

Four youths, including two members of a rock band, were arrested in south Delhi for their alleged involvement in a number of vehicle theft cases in the Capital.

The accused Hafiz (22), Istkar Khan (34), Sameer Gadhailey (19) and Anil Taak (19) were apprehended from various places in south Delhi on January 5.

Gadhailey and Taak, who have an interest in music and had learnt to play drums, had recently formed a rock band called 'Break the Silence'.

"The teenagers wanted to live lavishly and so thought of making easy money by stealing vehicles. They came in touch with the other members of the gang through Hafiz, a car mechanic," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).

Gadhailey is originally from Darjeeling.

His father died when he was only three years old.

"His mother could not control him so he was brought to Delhi by his aunt who works as a domestic help in Panchsheel Park. He was admitted in Deepalya School which is run by an NGO," Dhaliwal said.

Dhaliwal said Hafiz and Khan were the first to be arrested. They were picked from Shivalik area while travelling in a stolen car. One of their accomplices, Suresh, however managed to escape.

"They confessed to have committed several vehicle thefts in various parts of

Delhi. After the thefts, they used to dispose of the car through various receivers," Dhaliwal said.

With their arrest, 15 cases of vehicle thefts have been solved and 12 vehicles - four cars and eight motorcycles have been recovered.

Efforts are on to arrest other gang members.
