Never had an accident in 20 years as bus driver
In his 20-year-old career, DTC driver Sanjay has never had any accident.
But on Friday morning, while driving a DTC bus from CGO complex to Avantika (Rohini), Sanjay suddenly found himself in a tricky situation. With a bus carrying 25 passengers and a conductor beside himself, he discovered that the brake had stopped working.
Not only did he manage to avoid a single casualty on the road, he also made sure that his passengers escaped with minor injuries.
"Those were the most crucial 60 seconds of my life. There was no time to think. I was approaching a traffic light which was red at that time when I realised the brake was not working. I am happy that I managed to avoid what could have turned into a major accident," he said. Sanjay joined the DTC in 2005.
On Friday, Sanjay had started his day from Shakurpur at 5:30am where he lives with his wife and three children. "Before starting a bus, I check the bus. We completed one trip to the CGO complex. But when we were returning, the brake developed a snag," he added.
