The one-of-its-kind bridge will also have greenery, street furniture and benches on the walkway giving people a beautiful view of the Purana Quila.

It will also have large capacity lifts on either side for differently-abled people.

Being constructed by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS), the FOB, said officials, is a part of the infrastructure development taking place for the Commonwealth Games 2010.

According to DIMTS officials, the bridge can also function as an evacuation outlet for the stadium and has the capacity to evacuate 5,000 people in an hour, against the usual capacity to evacuate 1,000 people in a day.

“The bridge was conceived to look like an arch-type gateway, making it a gateway to south Delhi,” a DIMTS spokesperson said.
