ASI Pradeep Kumar lost his cool when he got to know that his daughter Priyanka had failed the CBSE Class 12 exam, the result of which was declared on Monday.
"His son Neeraj's Class 9 result was declared the same morning. He hadn't done well and Kumar was in a foul mood," said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
Kumar came down severely on Priyanka for her "bad performance" and then reprimanded Kamlesh for not helping the children with studies.
Posted in outer Delhi's Vijay Vihar, Kumar, who was on night duty, had barely stepped out of his Nihal Vihar home in west Delhi when Priyanka swallowed a handful of sulphas tablets. Her brother did the same.
On finding her children unconscious, Kamlesh, too, consumed the tablets.
They were rushed to a hospital, where Kamlesh and Priyanka were declared dead. Neeraj was discharged Thursday.
