Delhi PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan said the new road would be constructed over the Haiderpur Canal and will connect the two arterial roads — the Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road — at Prembari Pul and Haiderpur.
According to Chauhan, the new road will help de-congest the stretch of GT Karnal Road (NH1), which currently is the only link between the two ring roads in that part of the Capital.
“We have planned this road over the Haiderpur Canal. The feasibility study has already been done and chief minister has also approved the project,” said Chauhan.
The PWD has planned an eight-lane, 3.07-km-long road over the canal. There will be two-lane service roads on either side of the canal. Chauhan said the consultant has already prepared a detailed plan and the project is likely to cost Rs 98.83 crore, which includes the cost of the land along the drain that the PWD will have to acquire to execute the project.
The land, said Chauhan, belongs to the government of Haryana and the PWD has initiated the process to acquire it.
