New routes to skip busy Rajiv Chowk

Does the very thought of passing through the highly congested Rajiv Chowk Metro station scares you? Then just wait for Phase 3 of Delhi Metro, which is expected to be in place in 2016.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has designed corridors in its next phase in such a way that commuters will have a choice of alternative lines connecting the same destinations without touching Rajiv Chowk, which currently registers a footfall of 5 lakh commuters every day.
The four corridors that will act as alternative options are Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate, Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden, Rajouri Garden-Mayur Vihar and Azadpur-INA.
"The new corridors in the next phase were planned keeping decongestion of Rajiv Chowk Metro station in mind. This arrangement will help a great deal in decongesting the corridors as well as the commuters will have alternative routes to opt for reaching the same destinations almost in same time," said DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal.
All these four stretches fall on either of the two busiest and longest Metro corridors.
The 9.3-km Central Secretariat - Kashmere Gate corridor, the civil construction of which has already begun, will help decongest the existing stretch between the same stations on the very busy Line 2 (Jahangirpuri - Gurgaon).
Currently, the stretch of this line between Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate takes about 14 minutes to cover; the new stretch will take around 14 to 15 minutes. The 30-km (approx.) stretch connecting Azadpur with INA Metro station will be part of the 56-km Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor in phase 3 of the extension.
The new stretch and the existing one on Line 2 will take approximately 35-40 minutes to cover the distance.
Likewise, the other two corridors in phase 3 would cover the distance in almost the same time as the current Metro lines.
