NIA files two fresh FIRs against IM, Babbar Khalsa

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed two fresh FIRs against two terror outfits-Indian Mujahideen (IM) and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

In the FIR against the IM, the agency has charged around a dozen top operatives of trying to get new recruits for carrying out terror attacks in the country.

Those named in the FIR include top IM leaders like Iqbal Bhatkal, his younger brother Riyaz Bhatkal, Dr Shahnawaz, Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi, Mirza Shadab Beg, Amir Reza Khan and Mohsin Chaudhry.

Most of them are now based in Pakistan and are suspects in the Pune blast. In the last five years the IM is suspected to have been responsible for more than a dozen bomb blasts in India. The NIA will also focus Pakistan intelligence agency ISI’s patronage to the outfit.

The second FIR, which is against BKI, charges the Sikh terror outfit of providing funds for reviving militancy in Punjab.

The NIA has identified websites and social networking groups, which have been trying to find new recruits for reviving terror activities in Punjab. The BKI is also suspected of getting help from ISI. Some Canada and Germany-based NGOs, with ISI’s backing, are in the forefront of this effort. The case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
