According to police, the trail of drug cartel starts from Afghanistan from where it enters India for further distribution.

Banzi Babatunde, hailing from Lagos of Nigeria, was caught on Tuesday by Delhi Police's Special Cell allegedly with 1.017 kg of fine quality heroin worth about Rs one crore following investigations into a tip off about the gang.

"The input was that the gang supplied drugs to Delhi-based drug traffickers who in turn supply these to different countries. They use Delhi as their transit point," they said.

During interrogation, police said, Babatunde told them he came to India in 2006 on tourist visa and was since staying in Delhi even after the expiry of his visa.

"He receives supply of consignment of drugs from an Afghani national and sends it to various countries. Efforts are also being made to identify others involved in this network," they added.
