Nine roads to get CWG traffic blues

Most of these roads have just two lanes, and closing vehicular movement on one of them — the Games lane — is going to cause massive traffic jams, the police said.
The most troublesome point is from Dhaula Kuan flyover to Sardar Patel Marg leading hotels Asoka and Samrat in Chanakyapuri. These are two of the official hotels for the Games delegation and officials.
Maa Anandmayee Marg, a potholed road and one of the worst traffic bottlenecks in south Delhi, is also a part of the dedicated lane. This road will lead to Karni Singh shooting range — one of the Games venues.
"We have tried our best to avoid congested roads as far as possible. A length of 105 kilometres has been dedicated to the Games," said Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
According to traffic police, Lodhi Road — the most crucial road near the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium which is the venue for opening and closing ceremony — is another traffic bottleneck.
The police said the traffic helpline keeps getting calls about congestion on these roads.
Other troublesome spots are NH-24, NH-8, Gurgaon Road, Dhaula Kuan intersection, Ghazipur Road and Africa Avenue.
Traffic police said they are going to carry out a survey of all the dedicated lanes and list out roads that are in bad shape and send it to civic agencies.
"We will carry out a survey to find roads in the dedicated Games lanes that needs repair. Once done with that, we will send the list to the civic agencies concerned," said Ajay Chaddha, Special Commissioner of police (Traffic).
Garg said they would get additional volunteers to man these dedicated lanes apart from traffic police.
"We need about 600 volunteers and have requested the Organising Committee (OC) for the same," said the officer.
