Asked whether the city will face any shortage of power during June, July and August, he said adequate arrangement has been made and there will be no power cut in the city during that period.

"The peak demand is expected to touch around 5,100 MW while we will have availability to tune of 5,300 MW. So there will not be any shortage of power in the city," he claimed.

The Bawana power plant, which has already missed several deadlines, is likely to start producing power from June, which will help in bridging the gap between demand and supply of electricity during peak summer months.

Yusuf, who visited the under-construction plant, said the power demand has come down by about nine per cent in the current month comparing to April last year.

The city had experienced large-scale power cuts in peak summer last year primarily due to gap between demand and supply.

Yusuf said two units of Bawana plant, having a production capacity of 500 mega watt, will start generation from June. Bawana power plant has six turbines and the combined production capacity of all the units would be 1,500 mega watt.
