The Centre earlier in the day told the Supreme Court that the possibility of pushing the project through an alternative alignment to avoid any damage to 'Ram Sethu' is being given serious consideration by the government.

"We have not taken any about turn. It is an ongoing argument in the court. Various facets of the argument are currently going on in the court," Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.
