“The school should have informed us before. It would have saved us the trouble of coming all the way,” she said.

Many other parents faced the same problem. In spite of directives and guidelines on nursery admissions, schools in the Capital seem to be flouting the norms again.

As per the Directorate of Education (DoE), there is a common period for the sale of nursery admission forms, which is December 15 to 31 for all public schools.

But some schools in the Capital have already announced the dates for sale of forms.

“As per the court orders, the schools are free to decide the dates for sale of forms, provided the DoE has no objection to it. The objection from the DoE came too late, so we couldn’t inform the parents. Now we are awaiting an official communication from the DoE,” said Manleen Ahluwalia, principal, The Indian School.

Director of Education P Krishnamuthy said, “If any school is not following the uniform schedule for sale of forms, it is a clear violation and action would be taken against the school.” He also said that in addition to the existing guidelines, DoE will issue more directives regarding admissions early next week.

Some schools like Bal Bharti School, Gangaram Marg have announced online registration for nursery admissions.

“So far we have not received any objection from DoE; we will start the registration from October 26,” said principal LV Sehgal.

Others, like Mount Carmel, Anand Niketan and Dwarka, which had earlier announced the sale of forms from November 3, have postponed it to December 1.
