The accused, Baljinder Singh from Gurdaspur, was apprehended from Saini Market in Punjab's SAS Nagar on Tuesday.

“Singh along with his helper had allegedly shot dead Satnaam Singh Bajwa, a transporter, at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in outer Delhi on February 27, 2001, after his employer allegedly insulted him for beating up another employee,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (outer).

After killing Bajwa, Singh left his village along with his wife and in 2002, he was declared a proclaimed offender by court.

“It came to notice that he keeps on changing his job and rented accommodation. A team was dispatched to Chandigarh which kept on chasing Singh’s movements,” added Sharma.

The police said Singh had a helper who was close to Bajwa and his brother Geja.

The helper stole R1,500 from Singh. When this came to light, Singh had allegedly beaten him up and also tied him with a rope.

“Later Bajwa came to know about it and along with his brother Geja, beat up Singh and threatened him. It was when Singh decided to teach them a lesson,” Sharma said.
