The state government is working on a project to introduce a single bill for consumers for all utilities such as power, water, telephone and piped cooking gas.

“The project has been conceived to facilitate payment of all the bills to the service providers at one go,” said a senior Delhi government officer. “This is a big step in cutting down paper usage in the city.”

The government has already started the consultation process with the stakeholders and formed a working group to address technical issues.

“All the stakeholders, including private telecom companies, BSES, DJB, NDPL and Indraprastha Gas Limited, have shown great interest,” said Rashmi Singh, director of government’s Mission Convergence scheme.

“Kiosks will be set up to facilitate bill payments,” said Singh.

Singh said the initiative was encouraged by the government’s ‘green Delhi’ vision as implementation of it will significantly cut down on the use of paper.
