One more syndicate busted; 16 till date

The police have till now smashed 16 such rackets after the World Cup cricket began a month ago. “We smashed the racket while the match was on. A raid was conducted and three youths were arrested,” said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).

The racket was operating in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur area and the arrested have been identified as Ram Kishan (36), a cable operator, Bhushan Kumar (27) and Pradeep Kumar (27). A laptop, 13 mobile phones, a TV, a data card and two notebooks were recovered.

The rates of the odds between the two cricket playing teams originated from Punjab, Chand said on the basis of the bets taken during the match. After the match was over, he said profit and losses were calculated by specifically generated software known as ‘Back N Lay Pro’.

“The rates keep fluctuating with the fall of wickets and the runs scored. In a 50-over match, generally there are five sessions of 10 overs each and betting is done separately on each session,” Chand added.

Kishan works in the shop of a cable operator in Dwarka while Bhushan has come from Bhatinda only for the purpose of betting. He works in a garment shop there. And Pradeep works in a mobile shop at Janakpuri.
