Mission Gurgaon Development (MGD), one of the apex resident associations in Gurgaon, and other resident associations have written to the Union Human Resources Development ministry demanding a Central University in Gurgaon.

The MGD has shot letters to Union Human Resources Development minister Kapil Sibal, local Member of Parliament Rao Inderjit Singh and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

R.S. Rathee of the MGD said Gurgaon did not have even a single university for the want of which local students travel to Delhi or other states, especially in southern India, to pursue higher studies.

“There has been rapid growth in the industrial and commercial sectors, housing, and influx of large corporate houses and even in the establishment of several good schools, but higher education has remained neglected,” Rathee said.

“While NOIDA has set up Gautam Budh University and many institutions for technical and higher education have come up in Ghaziabad, nothing has come up in Gurgaon.”

Rathee added that there was no point setting up a Central university in Narnaul.

Haryana set up a central university, the first in the state, in Narnaul, which is in the state’s educationally and economically backward Mahendragarh district.

Dharam Sagar, the chairman of Federation of RWAs (FORWA), said ample land

running in hundreds of acres was available in Gurgaon for setting up or beginningsuch projects.

“Gurgaon has large tracts of land on the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road on which a spacious university campus can be set up for the local students.”

“It is requested that early steps may kindly be taken to set up a university in this area,” the letter stated.
