To woo voters ahead of the municipal elections, the BJP has announced that it will build 100 more underground parkings and improve health facilities if it comes back to power in the three municipal corporations. The party also promised to provide social security cards to people working in unorganised sector, a group which includes rickshaw-pullers, domestic workers, taxi drivers, industrial workers and daily wagers, etc. The card will give them access to facilities such as insurance, medical care and education.

The party’s remaining announcements were a repetition of its budget briefings of February. They are likely to be implemented in the next financial year. These projects include funds for the education of girl child and development of river banks for Chhat puja.

Assuring a more transparent system, Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said the party will further simplify the process of sanctioning building plans and end “inspector raj” through e-governance.

For senior citizens, widows and disabled, the party promised a hike in monthly pension from Rs 1,000 to R1,500, which is likely to be implemented soon.
“We have kept the manifesto realistic, achievable and strictly within the jurisdiction of the MCD,” said former Mayor Arti Mehra. The BJP manifesto of 2007 had made a slew of promises that did not come under MCD’s purview.

Leader of Opposition in state assembly VK Malhotra criticised the Congress for putting obstacles in its smooth functioning. He praised the MCD for improving its finances and providing better facilities such as sanitation and e-governance to the city despite the state government not releasing funds.

BJP’s national vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu alleged that the Congress suffered from credibility crisis as they did not keep their promises on issues of regularisation of unauthorised colonies and flats for slum dwellers.

The manifesto also assures that the BJP, if voted to power, will get unauthorised colonies regularised and make them inhabitable with proper drainage, roads and schools among other facilities.
